Moa Alskog works from the thesis that humans are part of an ecosystem. We live in a pivotal time. In Scandinavia, despite resources and knowledge of climate and biodiversity, changing behavioural patterns proves challenging. The philosopher Erst Cassirer posits that, symbolic forms, like art, shape culture and our perception. Can an image unveil unknowns? How do we align our actions with our knowledge? What lives has a right to live? These are questions she explore with her paintings, by working with motifs like kale, water treatment plants and soil microorganisms and by experimenting with and consistently utilize recycled materials, she comes across in her surroundings, such as vegetable nets, Dibond as canvas, and plastic for frames.  These materials actively contribute her artworks as meaningful elements imbued with meaning and influence her choices of subject and method.
